In the north is
the capital, Castries, with its beautiful hillside
backdrop and busy hive of harbour. In the south
is Soufriere, at the foot of the 2600 feet Piton
mountain cones.
In between are banana plantations, hills and
valleys cloaked in rain forest, bays and coves
of deep piled golden sand and picturesque villages
perched above the water.
This is camera country!
Sightseeing on this ultra-scenic island is perhaps
not as easy as you would imagine. While St. Lucia
is wonderfully unspoilt, it is also largely undeveloped.

So signposts are rare on the winding mountain
routes and even the straight bits of road are
far from a smooth ride. But hold on to your hat,
your map and your sense of direction and you are
rewarded with breathtaking
panoramas at every turn.
And there is an easier
way of travelling from north to south. Coastal
boat trips give a splendid perspective of St.
Lucia from the Caribbean sea. |
