Although it's the most laid-back state in the USA, there's an awful lot to discover in California.

As well as stunning beaches, there's the incomparable beauty of Yosemite in the High Sierras, the bizarre landscape of Death Valley and the sophistication of cities such as Beverly Hills and San Francisco.

It's also the entertainment capital of the world counting Disneyland and Hollywood as its treasures. The other gems of the USA are easily accessible - Las Vegas is a 4 hour drive from LA.

opinion:
This is a long-term favourite of Virgin guests where large comfortable rooms, friendly service and a complimentary continental breakfast each day makes for a great stay. Several budget restaurants can be found nearby, or if you are too tired to go out one night, you can order in from any of 25 different local places.

Radisson Maingate - Medium Class

Location:10 min walk from DISNEYLAND RESORT.

Opinion:
The shuttle bus will take you not just to Disneyland but also to Knotts Theme Park just a 10-minute drive away. The courtyard pool area is very pleasant, the ideal spot for a cool drink in the sunshine. In Pickford's restaurant the all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet will fuel you for a day of theme park exploration, and for dinner you might like to try one of their legendary prime rib specials.

Roosevelt Hotel Hollywood- Medium Class

Excellently located on Hollywood Boulevard, on the Walk of Fame

Opinion:
The Roosevelt enjoys a fantastic location on Hollywood Boulevard's Walk of Fame, close to all attractions and opposite the Kodak Theatre - home of the Oscars! The MTA subway service is one block away and whizzes you to Universal Studios in 6 minutes for $1.35. Established in 1927, it hosted the first Oscars and captures perfectly the ambience of old tinsel town - it was even home to Marilyn Monroe for 2 years!

Radisson KnottsBerry Farm- First Class

Location:
In the Knott's Theme Park within walking distance of Knott's Soak City U.S.A water park and the shops and restaurants of Knott's California MarketPlace (registered trademark). In Anaheim, very close to DISNEYLAND, Movieland Wax Museum and Wild Bill's Wild West.

Opinion:
This lovely hotel has really fantastic amenities, coupled with a great location and comfortable rooms. You can spend your whole day enjoying the great rides at Knott's Theme Park and then return to your hotel, which is on-site and relax by the spacious pool, enjoying the whirlpool, while the kids play in the activity area.

Opinion:
Hosting the famous Golden Globes in its ballroom, this hotel is a shining star in the LA galaxy. Legendary hotelier Merv Griffin not only owns the place, he lives here too and oversees the day-to-day running. Trader Vic's is one of the best bars in town plus there's a fantastic pool area to lounge by on sunny days or enjoy a meal in the poolside restaurant.

Holiday Inn Buena Park - Deluxe

In the centre of it all, close to shops, bars, restaurants and theme parks.

Opinion:
Having been totally refurbished just before the turn of the millennium, this hotel offers comfortable, spacious rooms and friendly service from attentive staff. It also boasts the largest outdoor heated pool and whirlpool in the area, making it the perfect place to enjoy a fantastic Californian vacation.

Renaissance Hollywood - Deluxe

Centrally located for the many attractions Hollywood has to offer.

Opinion:
This brand new hotel opened in December 2001 and is the cornerstone of the Hollywood and Highland shopping and entertainment project with designer outlets, trendy restaurants, cinemas and the Kodak Theatre (which will now host the Academy Awards). Sleek and sophisticated, the décor is inspired by the cool LA residential architecture of the 50's.
